The launch event, held at the Raffles Lusail Hotel, was graced by the presence of His Excellency Mr. Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, along with numerous other esteemed ministers, dignitaries, and senior officials from the technology sector, both locally and globally. This milestone initiative signifies Qatar’s commitment to advancing digital transformation, not only within the nation but also on the global stage.
The launch of the Digital Agenda 2030 marks a significant milestone in Qatar’s journey towards comprehensive digital transformation. This strategic initiative not only promises substantial growth and development across diverse sectors but also lays the foundation for a future characterized by skilled human capital and a conducive environment for innovation.
According to His Excellency Mr. Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, the Digital Agenda epitomizes Qatar’s steadfast commitment to nurturing a prosperous digital future and realizing ambitious goals in the ICT sector.
Al Mannai emphasizes that the agenda builds upon Qatar’s ongoing technological evolution, sustainability endeavours, and economic diversification initiatives. He further asserts that the implementation of the Digital Agenda aligns seamlessly with Qatar’s overarching vision outlined in the 3rd National Development Strategy, which aims to position Qatar as a smart and technologically advanced nation.
His Excellency emphasized the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology’s (MCIT) unwavering commitment to shaping the digital future, emphasizing the importance of staying abreast of global digital trends. He remarked, “With the launch of our Digital Agenda 2030, we are actively preparing to lead the digital era.” Success, he noted, hinges upon ensuring readiness within our digital society to adapt to the rapid changes in the digital landscape.
His Excellency elaborated on the specific objectives outlined in the Digital Agenda 2030, stating, “Our Digital Agenda 2030 provides a clear roadmap, delineating a comprehensive framework, trajectory, and specific goals.” These objectives encompass facilitating approximately 26 skills and opportunities by 2030, augmenting the competencies of professional staff in the ICT sector by 10% through the development of advanced skills, and engendering positive economic impacts estimated to reach nearly 40 billion Qatari Riyals by 2030.
The Digital Agenda 2030 of Qatar is structured around six key strategic pillars: Digital Infrastructure, Digital Government, Digital Technologies, Digital Innovation, Digital Economy, and Digital Society. These pillars provide the foundational framework for Qatar’s digital advancement and global competitiveness. The agenda emphasizes the empowerment of individuals and communities, aiming to bolster digital skills and integrate all segments of Qatari society into the knowledge-based digital economy.
Effective implementation of the Digital Agenda’s pillars is expected to yield several outcomes, including the enhancement of the digital economy and society’s efficiency, as well as the acceleration of economic transformation and competitive edge. This will be achieved through the adoption of innovative digital strategies prioritizing inclusivity and fostering sustainable prosperity in the digital age. The 2030 Digital Agenda embodies a visionary outlook, striving to forge a prosperous future for Qatar by comprehensively transforming services through digital means.
With an implementation plan consisting of 23 strategic programs, the Digital Agenda 2030 is poised to exert a tangible impact across all sectors of Qatar’s national economy. Projections suggest that executing these programs will result in a compound annual growth rate of the actual GDP of 7.8%, while significantly enhancing the contribution of the ICT sector to the gross product, potentially reaching up to 3.5% in non-oil GDP.
At the core of the 2030 Digital Agenda lies the cultivation of dynamic, forward-thinking concepts translated into actionable initiatives. Collaboration among stakeholders is paramount to realizing the roadmap’s ambitious objectives. Consequently, the Digital Agenda 2030 stands as a bold initiative aimed at positioning Qatar as a pioneering hub in digital technology, thereby unlocking substantial economic and social benefits.
By the target year of 2030, Qatar envisions a comprehensive digital transformation that positions the nation as a formidable contender in smart cities, e-governance, cybersecurity, and cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence and metaverse technology. This transformative journey holds the promise of significant economic gains, solidifying Qatar’s stature as a global leader in digital technology.
