Returning to Qatar from 8 to 10 November, MWC Doha will bring telecoms, technology and policy leaders together to explore the networks, services and partnerships behind the region’s digital economy.

Doha will host telecoms executives, technology entrepreneurs and policymakers this November as MWC Doha returns for its second edition. Taking place from 8 to 10 November 2026 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center in West Bay, the event will focus on the technologies and partnerships supporting MENA’s digital economy.

MWC Doha will take place alongside the International Telecommunication Union’s Plenipotentiary Conference, which runs from 9 to 27 November at the same venue. The conference brings together government representatives to agree the ITU’s priorities for the next four years and elect its leadership.

For businesses, the overlap adds another reason to take part. Building and expanding connected services depends on investment, reliable infrastructure and clear rules. Bringing industry and government together in Doha offers an opportunity to discuss these needs and explore where closer cooperation could help.

“In this Plenipotentiary year, Qatar is set to become a global hub for digital ambition and cooperation,” said ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin in the joint announcement on 27 August.

The digital economy starts with connectivity

MWC’s roots are in mobile communications. That remains central to its identity, even as the industries relying on mobile networks become more varied.

For a logistics company, connectivity makes it possible to track vehicles and deliveries. For a bank, it supports the services customers increasingly expect to access on their phones. For a software business, it provides the foundation on which a product reaches its users.

These connections help explain why MWC Doha matters beyond the telecoms industry. Decisions about network reliability, security and cost influence what other businesses can build and how widely their services can be used.

This year’s programme reflects that relationship through three themes: AI in Action, Connected Infrastructure and Intelligent Economies. They cover the use of artificial intelligence, the systems supporting digital services and the contribution technology can make to economic growth.

The most useful discussions will connect those subjects to everyday business decisions. Introducing an AI service, for example, involves more than selecting a model. Companies also need to consider how it will work with existing systems, how staff will use it and whether the benefits justify the cost.

As Rasmal explored ahead of the inaugural MWC Doha in 2025, bringing the event to Qatar created a new meeting point for the region’s telecoms and technology industries. This year offers an opportunity to build on those relationships.

A closer conversation between business and policy

The ITU gathering adds a distinctive international dimension.

The Plenipotentiary Conference, known as PP-26, is the organisation’s highest policymaking conference. It sets the ITU’s general policies, approves strategic and financial plans and elects its leadership. MWC remains a separate event, with its own programme and participation arrangements.

Their proximity matters because commercial and public priorities often meet around the same questions. Where is better connectivity needed? What makes investment viable? How can new services reach more people and businesses?

Companies bring practical experience to those discussions. They understand the challenges of building networks, serving customers and introducing products. Governments bring responsibilities that extend across the economy, including access, public services and long-term development.

For Qatar, hosting both events creates an opportunity to connect its domestic digital ambitions with a wider international discussion. For regional businesses, it offers a setting in which to understand both the commercial opportunities and the policy priorities influencing their markets.

Making participation worthwhile

The strongest reason to attend is a clear business objective.

A founder may be looking for an operator that can help distribute a product. A corporate technology team may want to compare suppliers or understand how a service would work in practice. An investor may be seeking a clearer view of customer demand in a particular sector.

Last year’s expansion of the agenda to include Smart City Expo Doha and the Digital Leaders Programme demonstrated the breadth of the inaugural event. It brought urban development and public-sector technology into a conversation rooted in connectivity.

For this year’s participants, preparation will help turn that breadth into something useful. Identifying relevant organisations, arranging meetings and arriving with specific questions can give conversations a clear direction. A demonstration becomes more valuable when there is a real operational problem to discuss.

That is particularly relevant for smaller companies. A focused conversation about a customer’s needs can reveal where a product fits, what must change and who needs to be involved in a purchasing decision.

For MENA’s digital economy, an important question is how investment in connectivity translates into services that businesses and people use. MWC Doha offers a setting to explore that question with operators, technology providers and policymakers. Participants who arrive with a clear understanding of the problems they want to solve will have a stronger starting point for finding the right partners.
