The UAE Space Agency, in collaboration with Amazon Web Services, Bayanat, and Planet, has announced the launch of a challenge for space startups entitled Sustainability for and From Space, with the deadline set for 19 October. The challenge is part of the Dubai Airshow’s Vista platform, which is a unique platform for startups from around the world.
The challenge aims to open the door for space startups from around the world to provide innovative solutions that contribute to achieving climate and sustainability goals on Earth, by employing space technology, in addition to encouraging initiatives that use artificial intelligence to analyze space data, to formulate solutions that ensure the long-term sustainability of space missions and environmental challenges on Earth.
The challenge provides an opportunity for startups to submit their projects no later than October 19, 2023, then the evaluation and selection stage, while the finalists will be announced on October 23, and the finalists will have the opportunity to present their ideas in a live presentation on November 13, 2023, at the Dubai Airshow, and the winners will receive valuable material prizes.
The challenge program offers the winners the following:
- Commercial and technical guidance and valuable promotional credit to benefit from AWS services.
- Support the UAE Space Agency and Bayanat to market access through the Space Data Park’s Satellite Data Analysis Platform, as well as promote their innovative solutions during COP28.
- Back from space experts from PlanetLabs and training on satellite data analysis using artificial intelligence techniques.
- Specialist mentorship and training sessions will be held during the challenge scheduled for the Dubai Airshow 2023, to help them reach and promote markets.

The judging panel is composed of experts and industry professionals from the UAE Space Agency, Amazon Web Services, Bayanat, and Planet, and will evaluate entries based on team criteria, technical innovation, action plan, and sustainability impact.
