The contracts were signed with Alkhorayef Water and Power Company (AWPT) and a consortium comprising Civil Works Company (CWC) and Alawael Company.

Under this agreement, AWPT will manage the STPs in Al Ahsa, while the CWC-Alawael consortium will handle the STPs in Dammam and Al Khobar.

NWC’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Fuad A. Alshikhmubarak, signed the contracts in the presence of Engineer Abdulrahman Abdulmohsin Al Fadhli, Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, and Chairman of the NWC Board of Directors.

This initiative is part of Saudi Arabia’s national water strategy, which aims to involve the private sector in maintaining and operating strategic assets, promoting environmental sustainability, and increasing investment in the water sector.

The contract with AWPT for Al Ahsa STPs is valued at over SAR 1.72 billion ($460 million), with a levelized tariff of SAR 0.67 per cubic meter ($0.18 per cubic meter).

The contract with the CWC consortium for Dammam STPs is worth SAR 1.04 billion ($280 million), with a levelized tariff of SAR 0.57 per cubic meter.

The contract for the Khobar STPs is set at over SAR 791 million ($210 million), with a levelized tariff of SAR 0.56 per cubic meter ($0.15 per cubic meter).

The scope of work includes the rehabilitation, operation, and maintenance of nine STPs across Al Ahsa, Dammam, and Al Khobar, with a total treatment capacity of 1.1 million cubic meters per day.

This project is crucial for enhancing the operational efficiency and environmental sustainability of the sewage treatment infrastructure in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province.

By engaging the private sector through these contracts, NWC aims to foster innovation and investment in the water sector, ensuring the long-term sustainability and efficiency of water management in the kingdom.
