The Saudi labour market experienced a significant milestone in May 2024, with private sector employment surpassing 11,370,796 workers. This achievement underscores the country’s ongoing efforts to create jobs and boost the economy.
Saudi Nationals in the Private Sector
A detailed report from the National Labor Observatory (NLO) revealed that 2,358,227 Saudi nationals were employed in the private sector.
This number includes 1,386,904 males and 971,323 females, reflecting the increasing participation of both genders in the workforce.
Non-Saudi Workers
In addition to the Saudi nationals, the report highlighted that the private sector employed 9,012,569 non-Saudi workers.
This group comprised 8,641,249 males and 371,320 females. The significant number of expatriate workers indicates the sector’s heavy reliance on foreign labour to meet its demands.
Job Growth
The report also noted a net growth in Saudi jobs for the month, with 30,881 Saudis joining the private sector for the first time.
This growth is a positive indicator of the ongoing efforts to increase Saudi employment within the private sector.
Role of the National Labor Observatory
The NLO, established by a Royal Decree in 2010, is the authoritative source for labour market data in Saudi Arabia.
It regularly publishes reports and analyses that provide valuable insights into labour market trends.
One of its key publications, “Overview of the Saudi Labor Market in the Private Sector,” presents critical statistics and figures from the preceding month, offering a detailed snapshot of employment trends.
The May 2024 report from the NLO highlights the continued growth and dynamism of the Saudi labour market.
With over 11 million workers in the private sector and a steady increase in Saudi national employment, the country is making significant strides toward economic diversification and job creation.
