The General Division of Digital Economy and Technology of the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce announced the names of the 33 companies participating in the activities of the Web Summit exhibition and conference to be held in Lisbon, Portugal, from November 13 to 16.

The official participation in this summit reflects the keenness of the Egyptian government, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), to support startups in their growth journey and enhance their capabilities to attract investments and funding, through their participation in specialised international and regional events, in cooperation with the General Division of Digital Economy.

Egypt’s participation in the summit, sponsored by ITIDA, comes under a special pavilion for Egypt, which is a place dedicated to showcasing startup solutions alternately in Hall 5, in addition to the Partners Pavilion in Hall 1, which is a place devoted to hosting startup meetings and receiving visitors to the Egyptian pavilion in an official capacity.

Exhibitors include: Synapse Analytics, Intella, MARSES Robotic Solutions, Appasap, Robota Industries, Insala Robotics, Stacks, SIDEUP (previously known as VOO), Spade, LeadsMart, Educatly, Bekia, The baby garage, Cosmos Bionics, El-dokan, OBM Education, Egrobots, Front Door, CliniDo, AMWAL, PIANAT.ai, Wfrley, Sprints, Awfar.

The list of visiting companies includes Chefaa, MEDEX, Swft, Interact Labs, Tatbeek, Easy T for Managerial Consulting, MazAid, CoatConnect, and Vexls (Tasmimak).

Commenting on this participation, Mr. Ahmed Al-Wakeel, President of the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce, expressed his happiness with the keenness of Egyptian startups and entrepreneurs to participate in such events, especially since the startup sector has become one of the sectors that are growing at remarkable growth rates in light of the economic repercussions that the world is witnessing, pointing out that startups always need the solidarity of all state institutions, including civil society organisations, and in line with Egypt’s ambitious vision 2030 to overcome the difficulties that You may face it, considering the WebSummit exhibition and conference a golden opportunity to capture foreign funding and partnerships in our local companies.

Eng. Khalil Hassan Khalil, Head of the General Division of Digital Economy and Technology at the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce, stressed the support of member companies in the division in particular and ICT companies in general, as this support is a significant goal for the division to learn about the new in the world of technology, refine the talents of Egyptian startups and gain new experiences, pointing to the significant role played by ITIDA in supporting small and medium enterprises, as well as startups by sponsoring innovative owners and pioneers business.

Khalil explained that this participation is the fourth in a row with a pavilion for Egypt in this exhibition, which is concerned with startups and entrepreneurs after the division participated last year with a large delegation of the division’s belief in the need to nurture creators and provide them with the fertile environment necessary for creativity and innovation, especially in light of the political leadership’s support for startups and overcoming the difficulties in front of them, as Egypt is witnessing a boom in the field of entrepreneurship after the startup sector based on technological innovation achieved non-growth rates. Precedent, with the increasing interest of investment funds, financial institutions, and organisations specialised in sponsoring, incubating, and accelerating businesses and innovative startups.

He added that 84 companies applied to participate in the exhibition, and 48 companies were approved by the committee formed by the Division, ITIDA and the Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC) to review their activities during the sessions before the jury headed by Eng. Khalil Hassan Khalil, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Division of Digital Economy at the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce, and the membership of Eng. Hisham Afifi, Assistant Secretary General of the General Division of the Federation, Dr. Walid Eid, member of the Board of Directors of the Federation, Eng. Amr Saleh, member of The Board of Directors of the General Division of the Federation, Dr. Hani Al-Jabali – Member of the Board of Directors of the General Division of the Federation, Eng. Rowaida Ismail, Technology Advisor to the General Division; May Bassiouni, Rapporteur of the General Division, Maha Turkey, Economic Researcher, and from ITID and TIEC, participated by: Samar Al-Sheikh, Director of the Partner Organizations Support Department – ITIDA, Lamia Al-Rashidi, Director of the Incubators Department TIEC.

The committee evaluated these companies according to several criteria, most notably the innovative superiority of the product, the expected market size, the product’s ability to apply, the product’s ability to reach global markets, the product’s ability to attract investment, and the professionalism of the company’s representative.

It is noteworthy that the WebSummit exhibition includes more than 100,000 visitors from more than 160 countries, 1,200 speakers, and more than 850 investors in the field of technology, and its innovation is showcased by more than 1,500 startups around the world. The Division and ITIDA seek through this participation to enhance Egypt’s international position in the fields of innovation-based entrepreneurship, promote the elements of the thriving technology startup sector and review the incentives and advantages that Egypt enjoys in this field, thus contributing to attracting more investments to this sector and expanding the base of venture capital funds, international financial institutions and platforms specialised in supporting entrepreneurs in Egypt.
