Saudi Arabia’s Tourism Development Fund (TDF) recently celebrated a significant milestone with the graduation of the first cohort of its “TDF Grow Accelerator” programme.
The event took place at the KAFD Conference Centre in Riyadh and marked a key achievement in the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to foster innovation and sustainable growth in the tourism sector.
The demo day was a highlight, showcasing the success of 15 startups that participated in the programme. These startups, including 11 from within Saudi Arabia and four from regional and international locations, demonstrated the potential to reshape the tourism landscape.
Over several months, the startups engaged in more than 20 training and guidance sessions, which played a crucial role in their development. This rigorous programme equipped them with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in the competitive tourism industry.
One of the notable successes of the programme is the significant investment these startups managed to attract. Collectively, they secured over $5 million (SAR 18 million) in investments, underscoring the viability and potential of their innovative ideas. These investments are not only a testament to the startups’ hard work but also reflect the growing confidence of investors in the Saudi tourism sector.
The event, organized by TDF, attracted a diverse audience, including investment pioneers, entrepreneurs, media representatives, and key stakeholders with an interest in tourism investments. This gathering provided an opportunity for participants to network, exchange ideas, and explore potential collaborations, further enhancing the ecosystem supporting Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector.
During the ceremony, TDF’s CEO, Qusai Al-Fakhri, conveyed his thoughts through a speech delivered by His Highness Prince Saud Bin Mohammed, the Executive Director of TDF Grow. The CEO emphasized the critical role of the TDF programmes in driving innovation and promoting sustainable development within the Kingdom’s tourism sector.
He expressed pride in the achievements of the startups, highlighting their contributions to the national tourism strategy and their role in reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s position as a leading global tourism destination.
The ceremony also included a comprehensive review of the programme’s accomplishments. Over the course of several months, the participating startups received extensive training and guidance.
This structured support was designed to add value to the tourism sector, enabling these emerging companies to develop and refine their business models, create innovative solutions, and effectively engage with investors and industry leaders.
The event concluded with a presentation of the tourism projects that participated in the programme, offering a glimpse into the future of Saudi Arabia’s tourism industry. These projects, driven by innovation and entrepreneurial spirit, are expected to play a pivotal role in achieving the Kingdom’s ambitious tourism objectives.
The TDF Grow Accelerator Programme stands as a significant initiative by TDF Grow, aimed at empowering entrepreneurs within the tourism sector.
By providing essential support, facilitating communication with investors, and encouraging the best tourism startups, the programme contributes directly to the realization of the national tourism strategy. The success of this first cohort marks a promising beginning, with the potential for even greater achievements in the future.
This programme not only supports the development of innovative technical solutions but also strengthens the overall tourism ecosystem in Saudi Arabia, ensuring that the Kingdom remains a top destination for global tourists.
