Armoir, a UAE-based luxury luggage startup inspired by the heritage of French wardrobe trunks, has raised $500,000 in seed funding to accelerate its expansion in MENA and Europe. The round was led by Salica Oryx Fund, with participation from Plus VC, angel investors, and follow-on support from the Chalhoub Group’s Greenhouse program.
The raise positions Armoir among a growing wave of consumer lifestyle ventures from the Middle East attracting institutional backing and aiming to compete on the global stage.
Targeting a Gap in the Premium Luggage Market
Armoir was founded in 2024 by serial entrepreneur Martial Dahan to fill what he describes as a gap between heritage luxury luggage houses and mass-market direct-to-consumer brands.
“The global luggage market is dominated either by century-old luxury brands at very high prices or by accessible brands that often compromise on design and durability,” Dahan said. “We believe modern travelers want both — timeless aesthetics and practical innovation at a more attainable entry point.”
The company sees its positioning as timely. The premium luggage market is forecast to reach $75 billion by 2031, with Gen Z and Millennial consumers representing the fastest-growing segment of luxury buyers worldwide.
Investor Confidence
For lead investor Salica Oryx Fund, Armoir’s design-led strategy and consumer appeal stood out.
“Armoir is redefining what premium travel looks like for a new generation,” said Ali Qaiser, Partner at Salica Oryx Fund. “The team has managed to merge timeless design with functional innovation, creating products that are aspirational yet practical.”
Hasan Haider, Founder and Managing Partner at Plus VC, highlighted the functional value:
“They are addressing the problem of cumbersome, inefficient luggage with designs inspired by classic travel trunks. The result is a product that blends sleek style, luxury materials, and smart compartmentalization.”
The Chalhoub Group, through its Greenhouse accelerator, was the brand’s first institutional backer and continues to support its growth. “Armoir is a globally fluent, design-driven startup solving a real gap in the premium travel space,” said Rafi Dikranian, Head of The Startup Studio at Chalhoub Greenhouse.
Growth Priorities
Armoir intends to use the new funding to expand its product line, build out its team, and establish a stronger retail presence in both MENA and European markets. New collections are in development to complement its inaugural range, which is already available online at armoir.co.
The funding round was supported by Dopamine, which will continue as a strategic advisor during Armoir’s next phase of expansion.
A Distinctive Approach
Armoir’s products draw inspiration from vintage French travel trunks, updated for contemporary use. The brand’s core differentiators include:
- Minimalist, pressure-tested shells designed for durability.
- Intelligent partition systems that organize belongings more effectively.
- Lifetime warranties, 30-day returns, and free shipping across Europe and the GCC.
This blend of aesthetics, functionality, and consumer-friendly policies aims to set Armoir apart in a crowded category.
Why This Funding Matters
Armoir’s seed raise reflects several broader trends:
- MENA-based consumer brands are scaling internationally, signaling confidence in the region’s creative industries.
- Investors are broadening their focus beyond fintech and SaaS to include design-led consumer startups.
- Younger consumers are reshaping the definition of luxury, seeking products that combine style, function, and accessibility.
By securing capital from regional venture funds and international angels, Armoir has positioned itself to test whether a premium consumer brand born in Dubai can achieve traction across global markets.
Outlook
The challenge for Armoir will be maintaining its brand positioning as it scales. While heritage houses like Louis Vuitton and Rimowa dominate the ultra-luxury segment, and disruptors such as Away compete on affordability, Armoir is betting that the middle ground — design-rich but accessible — is where the next growth opportunity lies.
Backed by a fresh $500,000 seed round, strategic investors, and a founder with prior entrepreneurial experience, Armoir is now preparing to prove whether its vision of premium luggage for a new generation can resonate internationally.
